Tooth Decay and Cavities Repaired In Our Lewiston Office

Once tooth decay is identified, we quickly eradicate it.
Cavities are no tooth’s friend. Once tooth decay eats through tooth enamel and makes its way into your teeth, it causes holes that can grow larger over time: cavities.

Cavities are a starting point to the loss of teeth and other oral health issues.

They are caused by multiple factors, including:
  • Oral Bacteria
  • Tooth Location (back teeth more susceptible)
  • Poor Diet
  • Drinks With Sugar
  • Oral Hygiene (more brushing, fluoride)
  • Babies Drinking Milk Before Bedtime
  • Older Fillings, Dental Bridges, Dentures (partial)
  • Heartburn & Eating Disorders

Cavities and tooth decay are facts of life around the world, especially common in people who are older and younger. For sure, though, no age group is immune–not even infants.

The best time to fix a cavity is before it even forms. Intense and regular dental brushing, flossing, and dental checkups can add years to the life of your teeth.

If cavities are left uncared for, they will only deepen and become more detrimental to oral health and overall health. Left untreated, cavities can lead to infection, headaches and lost teeth.

Do I Have A Cavity?

In the early stages, you may not even feel like there’s a problem, but as the decay deepens, tooth and jaw pain will become increasingly heightened until becoming unbearably so.

Here are some possible effects from cavities:

  • Tooth Sensitivity (to sweet, hot, cold)
  • Mild to Serious Oral Pain & Discomfort
  • Visible Holes/Cavities In Teeth
  • Not Natural Stains (brown, black, white)
  • Biting Pain

The key is to get ahead of cavities, preventing them from forming in the first place, or treating them in the early stages here at Aspire Family Dentistry.

Tooth Decay & Cavities: What You Need To Know

Tooth decay and cavities work to the detriment of oral health over time. It’s not a quick process, but it is inevitable once it starts. Initially, a film of plaque forms over the teeth, often as a result of poor nutrition and/or lack of dental hygiene.

The acids in the plaque wear away the enamel of the teeth. They also harden around the gum line, producing unhealthy tartar. Also known as calculus, tartar creates and nurtures plaque, creating a home for bacteria that’s especially harmful to overall dental hygiene.

Once in place, tooth decay doesn’t go anywhere. It continually works to weaken teeth, eventually causing pain and discomfort. Here at Aspire Family Dentistry, we are here to make sure that doesn’t happen to you–the people of Lewiston – Auburn, Maine, and surrounding areas.

Complications From Cavities:
  • Broken and/or Damaged Teeth
  • Chewing Issues
  • Abscessed Teeth
  • Mild To Severe Discomfort & Pain
  • Teeth Loss-Caused Bite Complications

Tooth decay and the cavities it causes are persistent issues for most of us. When you come to Aspire Family Dentistry, we’ll immediately get to work managing your oral health. Our goal: to make you feel better, look better and be pain free.
